Community Relations and Outreach

Kona Blue has a strong community outreach program to address environmental and other community issues. We also believe that open and honest discussions with the community are an important part of working on the ocean. We pursued this approach during our original permit and lease application process. We intend to continue this transparent and proactive process for the current proposal for expansion of our offshore operations, and for other community interactions.

Reconfiguration at Existing Farm Site - Draft Environmental Assessment Under Review - Public Comment Sought

Kona Blue Water Farms continues to strive towards more efficient, safer, and more environmentally-sound open ocean mariculture technology, to grow our sashimi-grade Kona Kampachi®. In order to continue to do this, we need to reconfigure the net pen array on our farm site to seek improvements in operational efficiencies.

Kona Blue is therefore currently requesting that the State authorize two new production net pens, and up to three new net pens for research or nursery production. These five net pens would replace the existing eight submersible Sea Station net pens. No increase in production capacity is being requested, and no change in the lease terms or lease area is required.

To make this permit modification process as fully transparent as possible, our entire Supplemental Draft Environmental Assessment is available below for downloading. Please email your thoughts, comments or questions to me via neil@kona-blue.com. We would appreciate your input and suggestions.

Thank you, and aloha,
